Gonzaga High School, October 5th, 2004: Industry Canada, the Aliant Pioneers, and the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association celebrated the delivery of 12,000 computers in Newfoundland and Labrador by the Computers for Schools program. During the event, the 12,000th computer was presented by the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Education, to Mr. Len White, Principal of Gonzaga High School. Accompanying the 12,000th computer was a brand-new all-in-one printer graciously donated by Dell Canada as part of a total donation of eight printers to schools across Newfoundland and Labrador. Three of these machines went to schools in Eastport, Carmanville, and Hopedale that have recently suffered severe damage as a result of fire.

In recognition of World Teachers' Day, the Honourable John Ottenheimer, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for the district of St. John's East presented a gift from Computers for Schools to the teachers at Gonzaga.

Certificates of Appreciation - A certificate is presented to Staff Sergeant Terry Gallant (RCMP B Division) by Brian Shortall (CEO/Executive Director, Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association).

Awards

Partners of the Computers for Schools program in Newfoundland and Labrador were recognized during the ceremony for their contributions to the program. The delivery of 12,000 computers would not have been possible without the generosity of several corporations and government departments who regularly donate their surplus computers to Computers for Schools. If your organization would like to donate computers, call Vanessa George at (709) 576-2377.

Volunteer Recognition - A gift is presented to Bill Butt for his accomplishments as the Computers for Schools Volunteer of the Year by Boyd Summers (Chair, Computers for Schools).

Special Recognition

Also during the ceremony, Bill Butt was recognized for his dedicated work as a volunteer for Computers for Schools. At the recent CFS annual general meeting in Halifax, Mr. Butt was selected as the Volunteer of the Year for Computers for Schools here in Newfoundland and Labrador. Mr. Butt regularly works 15 to 20 hours a week helping to transport computers all over the province.
